Technical Writer

Location: Sydney, NSW

We’re looking for talented and intellectually curious technical writers for our team. Writers who can apply both intuitive and analytical thinking and quickly understand complex software. Writers who can visualize the big picture and brainstorm about edge cases. Writers who are technical enough to experiment with the product, test assumptions, write example code, and even dive into source code to figure out how something works.

You will produce documentation that helps customers engage with and get the most out of Practifi’s products and services. In this role, you should be nerdily passionate about creating the best documentation for our customers.

  • Write new documentation such as user guides, knowledgebase articles, FAQs and technical support docs for all aspects of Practifi.

  • Learn complex concepts, and communicate the information in a way that is engaging and understood by both technical and nontechnical users.

  • Become a subject matter expert of the platform and how the different tools are used to perform various construction related tasks.

  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and tracking documentation work to meet product release dates and client deliverables.

  • Take ownership of documentation for multiple features; for each feature, you’ll track the development process, research the feature to understand both the high-level concepts and small details, provide high quality user documentation (release notes and detailed help topics), and ensure the documentation is thoroughly reviewed.

  • Gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources to document new or changing product functionality.

  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, marketing, and many others to bring your creations to life

  • Edit and review content created by others for technical accuracy and clarity

  • Aid in the creation of compelling long-term strategies that allow content to scale globally

  • Experience working with software development teams and designers, feeding back into all parts of the process – concept, design, development, release and maintenance

  • A proven track record of working in and managing documentation projects in an agile, fast paced environment

  • Ability to communicate complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders both internally and externally.

  • Have a clear idea and opinion on how to structure SaaS documentation based on the best in breed in the SaaS industry.

  • Excellent, clear, clean, accessible writing; obsessive eye for consistency and technical accuracy.

  • Proven experience producing technical content for public consumption.

  • Strong technical aptitude–ability to quickly learn new concepts and tools.

  • Ability to thrive, without much oversight, in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple writing assignments simultaneously.

  • A proactive and open-minded attitude to resolving problems and delivering results.

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a technical or communications related field

  • Preferred:

    • Prior experience working within IT Development, SaaS or technical startup environment.

    • Experience in SaaS tech writing

    • Experience working with Agile/Scrum software development teams.

    • Experience working with the following tools: Salesforce, Confluence/JIRA, CSS, JavaScript.
